SURPRISE PROPOSAL WORKS
Planning a surprise proposal from another country can feel complicated, but the process can actually be very simple.
Once I know your travel dates, where you're staying and the kind of proposal you have in mind, I can help you work out the practical details while keeping everything completely secret.
WE PLAN THE SURPRISE
We start by choosing the right location and time of day, considering the light, privacy, crowds and how you will naturally arrive at the proposal spot.
Before the day, we'll agree on a simple plan so you know exactly where to go and what to do. We can also coordinate discreetly via WhatsApp, making it easy to adjust small details if necessary without raising any suspicion.
The goal is for the experience to feel completely natural to your partner, even though everything has been carefully planned in advance.
I PHOTOGRAPH THE PROPOSAL DISCREETLY
On the day, I'll arrive before you and position myself where I can photograph the proposal without revealing the surprise.
You simply follow the plan we've arranged and enjoy the moment. I'll capture the anticipation, the proposal itself and those first reactions immediately afterwards without interrupting what is happening.
There is no need to look at the camera or worry about posing.
Until the surprise is revealed, my job is to remain unnoticed and document the moment as naturally as possible.
A RELAXED COUPLE SESSION AFTERWARDS
Once the answer is yes and you've had a little time to enjoy the moment together, we can continue with a relaxed couple photo session around Lake Garda.
This is where we can explore the surrounding waterfront, streets or landscape and create a mixture of natural photographs and a few more refined editorial portraits.
I keep this part easy and enjoyable, with gentle direction when needed rather than constant posing. It's a chance to enjoy being newly engaged while creating a beautiful collection of photographs from your time on Lake Garda.
A REAL SURPRISE PROPOSAL
ON LAKE GARDA
Florian contacted me while planning a surprise proposal for his partner, Pauline, during their stay on Lake Garda.
He had been put in touch with me by Barbara from Nontiscordar Salò, the florist who was preparing a small romantic setup on a quiet beach near Salò.
The most important part of the plan was keeping everything completely secret.
Florian wanted Pauline to arrive at the beach without suspecting that a photographer was already waiting nearby, so in the weeks before the proposal we carefully coordinated the location, timing and sequence of events.
PLANNING THE PROPOSAL AROUND SUNSET
Timing was particularly important.
After considering their dinner plans and the September sunset, we arranged for Florian and Pauline to arrive at the beach shortly before 7:00 pm, with the proposal planned for around 7:00 and sunset at approximately 7:13 pm.
This gave us beautiful late-afternoon light for the proposal itself, followed by the softer colours immediately around sunset.
I arrived well in advance so I could meet Barbara, study the location and decide exactly where to position myself.
This is an important part of photographing a surprise proposal: I need a clear view of the moment while remaining far enough away that my presence doesn't make the partner suspicious
THE SURPRISE ON THE BEACH
When Florian and Pauline arrived, everything was already in place.
Barbara had prepared the romantic floral setting by the lake and I was positioned discreetly at a distance.
Florian simply followed the plan we had arranged beforehand and brought Pauline towards the setup.
From that point, there was nothing to direct. I photographed the moment as it naturally happened: Pauline discovering the surprise, Florian proposing and the reactions immediately afterwards.
Those first few minutes are always the most important part of a proposal story.
Rather than interrupting them or immediately asking the couple to pose, I prefer to give them time to enjoy what has just happened while continuing to photograph the spontaneous emotions and interactions.

SUNSET ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS ON LAKE GARDA
After the proposal, we had approximately an hour before Florian and Pauline needed to leave for dinner.
With the surprise finally revealed, the atmosphere became completely relaxed and we continued with a couple session around the lake during sunset and the beginning of blue hour.
This allowed us to create a much wider collection of photographs: natural moments by the water, a few more refined portraits and images that showed the landscape and atmosphere of Lake Garda around them.
For me, this is the ideal way to photograph a proposal.
The proposal itself remains completely genuine and undisturbed, while the time afterwards gives us the opportunity to create beautiful engagement photographs without rushing or taking anything away from the emotion of the moment.
BEST PLACES TO PROPOSE ON LAKE GARDA
Lake Garda offers very different settings for a surprise proposal, from elegant lakeside towns and quiet waterfront locations to dramatic mountain scenery.

SIRMIONE
Sirmione is one of the most iconic locations on Lake Garda, with its historic streets, waterfront views and romantic atmosphere.
It can be a beautiful choice for couples looking for a proposal surrounded by the character of one of the lake's best-known towns.
Because it can also be very busy, choosing the right time and exact location is particularly important
RIVA DEL GARDA
At the northern end of the lake, Riva del Garda offers a completely different atmosphere, with dramatic mountains rising around the water, an elegant waterfront and beautiful views across the lake.
The combination of lake, mountains and changing light makes this part of Lake Garda particularly impressive for photography.
MALCESINE
Malcesine combines narrow historic streets, the lakefront and dramatic mountain scenery dominated by Monte Baldo.
It can be a particularly romantic option for couples who want the character of an Italian lakeside town combined with spectacular natural surroundings.
LIMONE SUL GARDA
Limone sul Garda is known for its picturesque waterfront, colourful historic centre and steep mountains surrounding the lake.
Its distinctive setting can work beautifully for a more intimate proposal followed by a walk and relaxed couple photographs.
PUNTA SAN VIGILIO
Punta San Vigilio is one of the most romantic corners of Lake Garda, with a quieter and more intimate atmosphere than many of the larger towns around the lake.
For couples imagining an elegant proposal close to the water, it is certainly one of the locations worth considering when planning the experience.
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR A LAKE GARDA PROPOSAL ?
The best time for a proposal on Lake Garda depends on the location, season and the atmosphere you would like to create.
In many cases, the late afternoon and the time around golden hour can offer beautiful, softer light and a particularly romantic atmosphere by the lake.
Sunset can be wonderful, but light isn't the only consideration. Popular towns and waterfront locations can become busy, especially during the summer and holiday periods, so sometimes choosing a slightly earlier or quieter time can make the experience feel much more intimate.
When we plan your proposal, I'll consider the light, sunset, season, expected crowds and privacy together rather than simply choosing a fixed time.
