Set in the hills of Castrocaro Terme in Emilia-Romagna, Castello del Capitano delle Artiglierie provided the setting for this intimate destination wedding in Italy.
The couple travelled from the Netherlands to celebrate with family and friends, choosing the historic castle for its distinctive architecture, gardens and relaxed atmosphere.
Having the preparations, outdoor ceremony, reception and evening celebrations in the same location also allowed the day to flow naturally, with plenty of opportunities for candid photography as well as a few more refined portraits around the castle and its grounds.

A Destination Wedding from the Netherlands
The couple contacted me from the Netherlands, and almost all of their guests travelled from abroad to celebrate with them in Italy.
The connection was already there: the groom knew my work through a Dutch friend whose wedding in Ireland I had photographed years before.
From the very beginning, this felt like a wedding built on trust, shared memories and a love for meaningful places.
Morning Preparations Inside the Castle
The day started early with preparations taking place inside the historic rooms of Castello Capitano.
Bride and groom got ready in different spaces, surrounded by stone walls, soft window light and a quiet anticipation that filled the castle.
I began the day with drone footage, and I was immediately struck by the landscape...
a feeling shared by everyone arriving that morning, visibly moved by the beauty and openness of the setting.
An Emotional Outdoor Ceremony
The ceremony took place outdoors, informal in its structure but deeply emotional in its atmosphere.
Surrounded by nature and open skies, the vows felt honest and unfiltered.
There was laughter, there were tears, and there was a natural flow that made every moment feel genuine and unforced.
A Relaxed Reception in the Gardens
Sunset Portraits, Fireworks and Evening Celebrations
After the ceremony, the celebration continued outdoors.
Guests spread across the lawn, sitting on the grass, barefoot, drinks in hand, enjoying conversations and the warm light of the afternoon.
There was no rush, no rigid schedule... just a beautiful rhythm created by the location itself, where nature and people blended effortlessly.

As the sun began to set, I took the couple for a quiet moment together, capturing portraits in the golden evening light.
The atmosphere shifted again as night fell: dinner, the cutting of the cake accompanied by fireworks, and then an explosion of energy.
Dancing started outdoors and continued inside the castle, lasting well into the night, closing the day exactly as it had begun... full of emotion, movement and life.
